slacking

well I certainly realize that I stated in my last post that I was going to update more often on both my knitting, cooking, reading and drinking more often but alas have not!!!  I’ve had quite a busy work schedule with trips to Seattle, Anaheim & Phoenix.  And while I’ve gotten to do some knitting, I definetly didn’t get to do enough.

Where to re-cap?

Current Knitting Projects:

  1. Seaweed Socks from Donna Druchanas in Madeline Tosh Grasshopper
  2. Kilkenny Cowl from Pam Allen in Quince & Co. Pomegranate

Currently Reading: my knitting has seriously gotten in the way of my reading to shame but I’m also using audiobooks more to multitask!!

  1. Moby Dick…in the homestretch with less than 100 pages to go (although its very intriguing it puts me to sleep very easily)
  2. Re-reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins in anticipation for the movie this weekend
  3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy…..Loved the movies but am struggling 2/3 of the way through 😦
  4. listening to Anne of Green Gables while knitting to get the most out of my time!!

Current Cooking Project:  I finally got a new stove and have to say…I can’t believe people even ate my cooking before!!!  I made homeade pastry cream for the cupcakes below and can’t believe that nothing got scrotched or ruined!!!

  1. Champane Cupcakes from Sprinkles Bakery…were devine but the frosting was very thick and not fluffy!!
  2. Preparing for Easter Dinner with lots of new ideas including Banana Cake, Creamy Spring Peas with Pancetta and Belinis!!
  3. Triple Coconut Muffins by my all time favorite NYC lady…Smitten Kitchen!!!

I’ve also decided to create a list of finished projects as well as my to do list as I spend so much of my time looking for things to knit, bake or read that if i just had a list to check off I would probably get more done!!!

Epiphany

so I know I know…I’m a much bigger procrastinator than I thought….lets start a blog…it sounds like such fun!  well, I’m sure it is when you have nothing else to do…but a strange thing occured….and I figured this is why I started a blog in the first place so put down the knitting and get writing!!

I’ve been knitting for several years now, mostly flat, shapeless items with numerous mistakes that I was just either not capable of fixing (my tinking has come  along way!!) or just assumed that you’d never see the mistake anyways and too damn impatient to fix it.

But a strange thing happened several days after I started the blog….all of a sudden I got good, and I mean good.  Like I was paying attention to my stitches, and actually counting rows and really following a pattern and wa-la my finished project actually looked like they should in the picture!  I realized that knitting is a precise project that requires following the instructions…which to say is not my strong suit.  I love to cook because I can do my own thing…..take a recipe and adapt it to what I like and how I want it to look.  But here’s the catch….you have to know how to cook before you start adapting things and I learned that I was trying to adapt patterns without really knowing how to knit in the first place!!  This really was the first time that I was knitting something and was really proud of my finished project…it was an amazing feeling!!!

well well well….where to begin

well my passion for knitting, albeit as a novice, is quite consuming.  I feel like there is never enough time in the day for my favorite hobbies: knitting, drinking, cooking and reading!  I can read about knitting and combine the two but it usually leaves me with more ideas and projects that I want to make then when I started, so that surely doesn’t help.  I’ve only found several ways to cook with knitting, but you end up eating it all and still have nothing to show for yourself except pictures.

so what is a girl to do…….drinking while knitting go hand in had……at the beginning anyways.  It usually starts out ok…all the rows and stitches are correct but the further you get into your drinks the more the mistakes start to happen, although unnoticed til the next day!

there are soo many things that I am passionate about that I just can’t keep it all to myself…thus drunk knitter anonymous has begun!!!  My plan is to talk about my different knitting projects, new cooking techniques or recipes, great books that I’m reading, plan to read or have always loved and of course what I’m currently drinking!!!
